Draft v0.1 — This standard is currently in draft. Feedback and testing are welcome.

Purpose

The VM-001 Strict Sit-Up Standard™ defines how a sit-up must be performed, measured and verified under the Verified Movement framework. It is designed to remove ambiguity, eliminate subjective judging, and enable fair comparison across athletes, gyms and events worldwide.

Valid Rep Definition

A valid repetition requires the athlete to move from a fully verified down position to a fully verified up position in a single continuous motion, meeting all positional requirements at both ends of the movement.

Required Down Position

  • Head (hands behind the head) in contact with the floor
  • Knees bent at approximately 90 degrees
  • Feet flat on the floor
  • Arms in the designated position (hands behind head, thumb side of each hand touching each ear and the index, middle and ring fingers inter-linked)

Required Up Position

  • Upper body raised so elbows touch the thighs above the knee (left and right simultaneously)
  • Elbows pointing forward toward the legs (not flared outward)
  • Buttocks remains on the floor

Invalid Rep Conditions

  • Hands behind the head not returning to the floor between reps
  • Feet leaving the floor
  • Finger interlink broken at any time
  • Elbows not touching the thighs simultaneously during the up position
  • Flaring of elbows to build momentum
  • Movement of knees out of the starting angle

Verification Concept

Each repetition is verified electronically using the VM Core platform and Verification Nodes. The Movement Verification Engine determines in real time whether each rep meets the requirements of this standard. A rep is only counted when both the down and up positions are electronically confirmed.

Draft Status & Development Notes

This standard is under active development. The current draft (v0.1) is being tested with initial athletes and equipment prototypes. Positional thresholds and sensor placement specifications will be published in a future revision.

Feedback on this draft standard is welcome. Please contact us through the website.
